status change

Before the 1960's, blue jeans were worn primarily by the working class.

After the sixties, they were worn by hipsters wanted to reject american consumerism.

In the eighties, they were appropriated by high-end fashion designers and became status symbols with prices reaching several hundreds of dollars.

"I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity - all I hope for in my clothes."

- Yves Saint-Laurent
